A Unique Up-Close Experience with the Friendly Amazonian Pink Dolphins (private tour)

  • The pink river dolphin is the largest species of freshwater dolphin in the world and unique to the Amazon basin

It’s time to head out on the Amazon river bound for an exciting encounter with the largest species of freshwater dolphin in the world: the Amazonian pink river dolphin! You’ll have the opportunity to dive in a shallow bank of the Amazonian Black River and enjoy an uniquely up-close experience around free and wild pink dolphins, known for their very friendly nature.

We’ll hop onto our private boat and navigate upriver along the Rio Negro, the main tributary of the Amazon river, for about an hour and a half. Our guide will take us to an area where the pink dolphins can be found. An IBAMA-certified professional will offer fish to attract the dolphins in the area (IBAMA is the Brazilian national authority for environmental sustainability, and it supervises this activity). The professional caretaker will tell us about some of the unique features of this mammal, that allow it to thrive in both extremely high and very low tides, and to sort their way through the underwater thickets as they hunt their food. This species is unique to the Amazon basin and, being the largest freshwater dolphin in the world, can grow to up to 8 feet in length.

Now it’s time to dive! (If you are so inclined, of course). You’ll go waist-deep in the Black River to enjoy a one-of-a-kind close-up interaction with the dolphins, as they swim next to us.

Our pink dolphin outing concludes as we head downriver (for about one hour) to the "Meeting of the Waters" phenomenon, having experienced the delight of interacting with the Wild Amazonian Pink Dolphins!

Important: although it’s extremely likely that you’ll see and have the opportunity to interact with a dolphin, their presence is not guaranteed, as these are wild and free creatures. The tour’s exact itinerary and duration may change subject to weather conditions and decisions of the tour guide to optimize your tour experience.
