Brazil is the fifth-largest country on the planet, stretching from the deep Amazon rainforest — the most biodiverse ecosystem on earth — across more than 4,500 miles of Atlantic coastline. Inside its borders sit one of the New 7 Wonders of the World (Christ the Redeemer), two of the New 7 Wonders of Nature (the Amazon and Iguazu Falls), the largest wetland on earth (the Pantanal, ten times the size of the Everglades), the largest collection of Baroque and Colonial architecture in Latin America (Salvador), and Fernando de Noronha, an island whose Sancho Bay has been voted the #1 beach in the world by TripAdvisor users six separate years. Pick a destination below to start exploring — and let’s start designing your trip.
The mighty Iguazu Falls are a spectacle unlike any other, with 275 cascading waterfalls creating one of the most awe-inspiring natural wonders on Earth. Nearly twice as tall and almost three times as wide as Niagara Falls, their sheer power and beauty are mesmerizing.
Recognized as one of the “New Seven Wonders of Nature” in a global competition with over 100 million voters, they have also been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site for their ecological and geological significance.
Crashing through the heart of a tropical rainforest, Iguazu Falls creates a breathtaking natural spectacle, an unmissable destination to visit!
Rio de Janeiro has been chosen the #1 tourist destination in South America by millions of voters on Trip Advisor in 2017, and has been declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations for its natural and artistic beauty. Also, the city has been declared the first World Capital of Architecture by the UNESCO and the Council of the International Union of Architects in 2019, as a recognition to the architectural treasures that show the city’s culture and history since the 16th century.
From the top of the Corcovado mountain, you can enjoy some of the most awe-inspiring panoramic views of the "Cidade Maravilhosa" (the Marvelous City, as Rio is commonly known) and to amaze yourself with the “Christ the Redeemer” statue, Rio’s most renowned icon and one of the winners of the "New 7 Wonders of the World" worldwide competition in which more than 100 million votes were cast. The natural setting of Rio features the largest natural reserve in the world within an urban setting, imposing mountains and lagoons, beautiful beaches, and also a quaint historic (and also hip) neighborhood that harbors beautiful remnants from Brazil’s Imperial past (Brazil was the only Empire ever in the Americas). Rio also offers world-class dining in a variety of cuisines and a vast array of delicious and exotic fruits and natural juice (arguably the largest variety in the world!).
Salvador da Bahia has been declared “Cultural Heritage of Humanity” by the UNESCO, and in 2018 it was selected by Lonely Planet as one of the top 10 regions in the world to visit. Once the largest city in Brazil, as well as its first capital, it is home to the largest collection of Baroque and Colonial architecture in all of Latin America. Having once been the largest slave trade market in the Americas (7 times more slaves from Africa have been brought to this city alone, than to the entire United States), it remains to this day the epicenter of Afro-Brazilian heritage for all things music, dance and religion. Bahia’s local cuisine is a unique and tasty blend of Portuguese, native Brazilian and African flavors and aromas that’s not to be missed.
Discover Fernando de Noronha
Exclusive haven for marine wildlife and home to the #1 beach in the world
The exclusive island of Fernando de Noronha features the #1 beach in the world, as voted by millions of travelers on Trip Advisor in 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2019; and has been designated Natural Heritage of Mankind by the UNESCO for being a haven for marine wildlife. Its unbeatable climate year-round, breathtaking landscapes and rich marine wildlife make it a unique place to enjoy beach hopping, snorkeling, scuba diving and boating. Enjoy swimming among a collection of multi-colored fish and sea turtles, admiring Spinner Dolphins (which can spin up to an impressive 7 times in a single jump!) while you witnessing a picture-perfect, orange and tangerine imbued sunset.
Discover Amazon Rainforest
The most bio-diverse ecosystem on Earth, chosen as one of the "New 7 Wonders of Nature" by over 100 million voters
The Amazon Rainforest has been elected one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature by over 100 million voters worldwide, and declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations. The Amazon is the most biodiverse ecosystem on Earth: 20% of all birds on the planet live there, in a single hectare you can find as many different species of trees as in the entire United States and Canada, and its river has more species of fish than all the rivers of Europe combined. It is also, by far, the greatest and most valuable source of oxygen and fresh water on our planet.
In the Amazon jungle you can hike across the thick forest while learning jungle survival techniques and appreciating some of the amazing properties of unique plant species. You can also enjoy jungle navigations, surrounded by the constant cacophony of chirping and singing produced by birds, insects and animals. Also you can meet villagers and learn about their lifestyle, and embark on nighttime navigation adventures in search of caimans.

TRIP REVIEW OF SHARON VANVALKENBURG AND KELLY CARTER
"I wish these folks worked in all of the countries that I would like to travel to. The logistics for our adventure were handled perfectly. All our transfers went smoothly. Fred checked us in online for all of the internal flights, and ensured that the local tour operator or the hotel gave us our boarding passes before we headed to the airport.
The completely customized Travel Booklet provided by Exploration Journeys kept us on track, both before and during our trip, and was an invaluable resource.
Returning to Buenos Aires at the end of our adventure, I reached out to Fred for help in finding llama wool to take home as a gift, and he found a store, sent web links to the color choices, then arranged for the wool to be delivered to our hotel! That’s a wonderful, helpful, above and beyond kind of thing to do, and it’s the service level that we received from Fred and Exploration Journeys from our first email to them to our return home.
Exploration Journeys provided us with a truly enjoyable and memorable 20-day overview of Argentina, and made it positively easy for us to get around this beautiful country. Fred worked with us to put together a trip itinerary that included the destinations that we wanted to visit, and tours/activities that helped us to explore each of them in the way we wanted.
We toured historic cemeteries in Buenos Aires, learned about its many districts, enjoyed an evening of tango and good food, and travelled west to visit an estancia for a day.
Iguazu Falls, shared with Brazil, provided the most spectacular waterfall views that we have ever seen, along with some great fun in dining.
In Mendoza, we biked through a winery, tasting lots of very fine wine en route. The next day, we headed into the mountains, with the goal of Aconcagua National Park. Road closures prevented this from happening, and our tour company quickly provided a great alternative. It featured a great drive through the most lonely high countryside, along twisting, winding mountain roads. The views were absolutely magnificent.
In Ushuaia, we hiked to a still partly frozen mountain lake, paddled to windswept bays, and walked historic farmlands. We even toured a very good prison museum.
El Calafate means all things glacier. Here we visited the Glaciarium, boated to beautiful blue giant icebergs, and spent time trekking on glaciers too.
Beautiful Bariloche offered rich chocolate, a food festival, hiking to snow-capped mountain lookouts, and boating to the most amazing, protected myrtle forest.
The hotels that we stayed at throughout our travels were all very good, and exceeded our expectations."

Behold the Breathtaking Panoramic Views of Iguazu Falls from the Brazilian Side (private tour)
With 80% of the falls located on the Argentine side, it is only from the Brazilian side that one can see almost all of them at once, in full, breathtakingly panoramic views.
The Brazilian side offers majestic scenic views of the beauty and entirety of the falls; this is because the Brazilian footbridge lies across the river from the falls, offering a unique perspective and epic scenic views, making the Brazilian side different and absolutely complementary to the experience from the Argentine side.
This is a half-day private tour.

Walking Among Exotic Birds in the Iguazu Rainforest (private tour)
You’re about to enter a one-of-a-kind bird sanctuary! Here you’ll find the largest colony of toucans on display in the world, as well as the largest colony of parrots on display in South America, along with 150 different bird species from Brazil and all over the world, many of them endangered.
Located in the midst of the lush tropical rainforest, Foz Tropicana Bird Park is an internationally-recognized rescue and preservation center for endangered birds; and it’s among the most important ones in South America. You’ll find yourself side by side a myriad of exotic birds, in the three walk-in aviaries, where you’ll have the opportunity to have an up-close and personal experience with amazingly colorful parrots and Toco Toucans, among many other birds… all of them right next to you or even flying over your head!
In addition to the diversity and beauty of the birds you’ll see, the park itself presents itself as a unique location. It covers nearly 40 acres (16 hectares) of rainforest, so you’re quite literally going to find yourself in the middle of nature as you make your way along the trails!
This visit lasts about an hour and a half to two hours and takes place on the same day as your Brazilian side of the falls tour.
Day 3: Iguazu

Witness the Unique Power & Might of the Iguazu Falls from the Argentine Side (private tour)
“You might have seen the photos. Even read about it. You might have visited other great waterfalls before. But you probably still have no idea what to expect when you come face to face with the almighty Iguazu Falls,” stated CNN in their article “Iguazu Falls: Why this natural wonder should be on everyone’s bucket list". To put that into perspective, Iguazu Falls is nearly twice as tall as Niagara Falls and nearly three times as wide. The late U.S. First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, was reportedly so impressed by the sight of Iguazu Falls that she exclaimed “Poor Niagara!”
In 1984, Iguazu Falls became a UNESCO World Heritage Site; and in 2011, it was selected as one of the 7 winners of the “New Seven Wonders of Nature” worldwide competition in which more than 100 million votes were cast.
Their size and scale are unlike any other waterfall on Earth. Made up of a system of 275 waterfalls, they have a staggering water flow of up to almost 3.5 million gallons (13 million liters) per second – enough to fill five Olympic swimming pools!
Unlike Niagara Falls, which is surrounded by developments such as casinos, a revolving restaurant, and coffee shops, Iguazu Falls are located within one of the few remaining inland rainforests in South America, the Atlantic rainforest, which is a haven for more than 2,000 plant species, about 400 birds species, and 80 types of mammals!
This is a full-day private tour.

As we follow this route in our canoes, we’ll feel both a sense of freedom and isolation from civilization, taking us back to a time when the Yamana tribe inhabited this distant corner of the planet.
We’ll also make a brief stop at Martillo Island where, from our boat, we’ll have the opportunity to observe a colony of Magellanic penguins.

Beholding the Perito Moreno Glacier from its Seven Panoramic Boardwalks
Prepare to visit one of the world’s most unique and awe-inspiring glaciers: The Perito Moreno Glacier. This grandiose glacier showcases its mighty glory in the Patagonian Glaciers National Park, which has been declared as a Mankind’s Natural Heritage site by UNESCO. The park’s vast size not only gives it the distinction of being the largest ice mantle in the world after Antarctica, but it’s also the third largest fresh water reserve on the planet as well.
The Perito Moreno is of the few glaciers in the world that is actually growing and advancing. This is opposed to the majority of the world’s glaciers that are retreating and melting due to the effects of global warming.
Our destination is the panoramic boardwalks which overlook the Perito Moreno Glacier. Here, amidst the backdrop of the majestic, snow-capped Andes, you’ll find yourself immersed in an unforgettable glacier experience, while enjoy amazing picture taking opportunities from the seven panoramic balconies facing the front of the glacier.

This will be definitely a different perspective from what you experience on the panoramic boardwalks.

Navigating the Nahuel Huapi Lake & Exploring and Hiking at Victoria Island and the Myrtle Forest (with private guide)
Prepare to navigate the beautiful blue waters of the Nahuel Huapi Lake, the largest in Argentina’s Lake District, set against the backdrop of the snow-capped Andes mountain range. We’ll enjoy our exclusive seating in the boat’s upper deck cabin. From here we’ll experience superior panoramic views and a much more exclusive setting, since there are only 50 seats in this cabin (compared to the over-200-people capacity of the regular cabin).
Known for its cold glacial waters and for being the habitat of kelp gulls and blue-eyed cormorants (which are typically only found near oceans), the Nahuel Huapi Lake provides plenty of natural beauty and beckons with the serenity of its waters.
We’ll visit the largest island on the Nahuel Huapi Lake: Victoria Island, home to a wide array of flora and fauna; also offering plenty of history, including ancient cave paintings. Another highlight of this navigation includes a visit to a unique forest of myrtle trees at Arrayanes National Park. These intriguing, cinnamon-hued trees are known for their attractive, smooth and tan bark, peppered with white spots; and giving the forest a captivating mystique. It’s widely rumored that Walt Disney drew inspiration from this myrtle forest to create his animated classic ’Bambi’ but there’s actually no evidence to back up this claim.
This is a full-day tour. You’ll have your own private expert guide to help you make the most out of your tour experience. Transfers to and from the port will be done on group basis.

Passion and Beauty: an Authentic World-class Tango Experience
You are cordially invited to an evening of live music filled with passion, sensuality and dancing, at one of the best Tango venues in Buenos Aires: La Ventana. Located at the heart of the historic San Telmo neighborhood, you’ll enjoy a world-class Tango show in a restored tenement building (or, ‘conventillo’). This enchanting show also boasts unique features of Argentine folklore.
As you step through the doors, you’ll feel as though you have traveled back in time, with the interior of the building preserved in its original style. The show at La Ventana is a journey through the history of Tango, in which you’ll experience different and authentic styles of this mesmerizing dance, each with its own particular set of music, dancing style, and costumes.
Tango is a universe onto itself as it creates a multi-layered marriage of music, dance, singing and poetry.
This tour includes group transfers and dinner with non-alcoholic beverages & wine.
Day 17: Buenos Aires

A Day in the Life of a Gaucho: Santa Susana Ranch
You’re invited to experience a day in the life of a “gaucho” at beautiful Estancia Santa Susana. This is a perfect opportunity to get out of the city and explore the Argentinean countryside, with the natural surroundings of the Argentine Pampas (region of very fertile plains). As you tour the facilities of the estancia (ranch), you’ll get a first-person glimpse of the gaucho’s life in its heyday.
The “gaucho” is the Argentinean equivalent of a North American “cowboy”, and has traditionally been the primary laborer on Argentine estancias (or ranches). Gauchos flourished in the mid-18th century; since then, the gaucho has become a central symbol of Argentine tradition.
You’ll also have the chance to hop on the gaucho’s most prized possession: his horse! You can either choose to do a very short ride on the horse, or take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage.
You’ll learn about the Gaucho’s work and customs, as well as enjoy a traditional Argentine barbecue, also known as “asado”. Argentina is famous for its beef.
After lunch, enjoy a Tango and Folklore show with some time to relax before afternoon activities. Witness a mesmerizing boleadoras show performed by a gaucho. Boleadoras are traditional throwing weapons used by gauchos, designed to capture animals by entangling their legs (made of weights on the ends of interconnected cords, and used to capture animals by entangling their legs).
This is a full-day group tour and includes lunch with non-alcoholic beverages & wine.
The pickup for this tour is at the hotel but on the return transfer the company organizing the transfer offers different stops in central areas of the city.
